Start

First run

The setup window has three steps. You can skip a step and do it later in Settings.

When you open Widgetful for the first time, the setup window opens. To open it again, go to Settings › General and click Open the setup window.

Step 1: Install the helper

The helper keeps the Mac awake with the lid closed. It does only this action.

  1. Click Install the helper.
  2. macOS asks you to allow the helper one time. Click Open Login Items.
  3. In System Settings › General › Login Items, allow Widgetful.
  4. Come back to the setup window and click Check again.

Note: Without the helper, Widgetful cannot keep the Mac awake with the lid closed. The agents and resources parts still work.

Step 2: Connect your agents

Widgetful finds Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode on the Mac. Turn on the switch of each agent that you want to see in the menu bar. Click Show the change to see the exact change to the file. Then click Connect.

Step 3: Allow notices

Widgetful tells you when a session waits for you, when a session ends, and before a resource limit.

  1. Click Allow notices.
  2. macOS asks for the permission. Click Allow.

If notices are off, click Open Notifications and turn them on for Widgetful in System Settings › Notifications.
