Awake
Lid closed awake
Keep the Mac awake with the lid closed, on battery or on power.
macOS sleeps when you close the lid of a Mac laptop. When the Mac sleeps, your agents and jobs stop. Widgetful turns this sleep off while your work runs, and turns it on again after.
Start awake mode
- Click Widgie in the menu bar.
- Turn on Awake, or choose a time from the timer.
- Close the lid. The Mac stays awake.
When the Mac is awake, Widgie in the menu bar has open eyes and a lime light. In normal sleep, the eyes are closed.
The menu bar faces
| Face | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Eyes closed | Normal sleep. |
| Eyes open, lime light | Awake. |
| Eyes up, orange light | A session waits for you. |
| X eyes, red light | A warning, for example a resource limit. |
How it works
Widgetful uses a small helper that runs as root. The helper does only one thing: it runs pmset disablesleep to turn lid sleep off, and turns it on again. The helper accepts requests only from the signed Widgetful app. See Safe end.
Caution: Do not put a closed, awake Mac in a bag without the heat guard. The Mac can become too hot. Keep the heat guard on when you carry the Mac.
